Energy Resources Renewable And Non Renewable Ones

One of the most important innovations ever made by humankind was a discovery of the ability to transform the energy into the electricity. In today’s modern world it is hard to imagine that there was a world without the electricity and that electricity was gifted to the humanity just 400 years ago. As George Gobel said once: â€Å"If it weren’t for electricity, we’d all be watching television by candlelight†. Electricity is the gift granted to humans and it is our generation’s duty to use the electricity energy smartly and pass it to future generations. For being able to do so we should cooperate and find ways to save the energy. There are two types of the energy resources: renewable and non-renewable ones. While exhaustible sources of the energy are limited, there are also unlimited sources granted to us by nature. Also according to Chicago Tribune, renewable energy is one of the most important strategies to combat carbon pollution because, unlike n atural gas, it emits no global warming emissions (Chicago Tribune, 2012). I would like to give an information about some unlimited energy sources and methods which in my mind are the most beneficial for producing the electricity. First energy source I would like to discuss is the solar energy. Solar energy generating method is a method of converting sunlight directly to the electricity through the system of panels or mirrors. When sunlight warms heat absorbing panels, they produce steam, which isShow MoreRelatedA Brief Note On Hydro Quebec And The Largest Electricity Company1630 Words   |  7 Pages What is Hydro-Quebec? Camera and Computer Arts Graphic Design Essay Example For Students

Camera and Computer Arts Graphic Design Essay During those same years, another technology that could record and play back images in motion was made available to the general public, and it quickly became ore popular With artist than film had ever been. That technology was video. Chapter 10 Signs and Symbols Symbols convey information or embody ideas. Some are so common that we find it difficult to believe that they didnt always exist. 9. ) Beirut Traffic 2007 by Michael Spar http://videotape. Net/home/Artists 10. ) Using video in my art class using clay figures. What I think about Advance and the last supper painting as far as symbols and signs being in the painting. Essay on Video, Signs and Symbols Michael Spar born on March 19, 1973 in Bern, Switzerland is a very creative artist whom specializes in video art, The art form of video art has not really been around that long it was first introduced in the gs and ass and has evolved with technology, Mr.. Spar is really great with creativity and grew very fond of video art and has produced many works using this new form of art. Leonardo Advance is one of the most famous artists of all time born in Vinci, Italy April IS, 1452 he has created some of the most famous paintings ever. Advance is considered to be a genius in many circles, he was way more than just an artist, but his artwork is genuinely astounding. These two artists have very little in common when it moms to the way they produced their art work but they do have a very strong sense of creativity and a way with symbols and messaging. The artwork Of Michael Spar is probably Very different than What many people are accustomed too. He produced an audio visual performance of Some Trouble in Paris that is supposed to represent a mishap Of the building Of the Eiffel Tower. A lot of Mr.. Spears art does tend to have some kind of message within the work Of it. Most is left up to the individual to figure out What kind Of message is being portrayed. It is not always easy to figure out either because video art is so efferent but there is something about it that it will capture your mind and have your mind trying to scramble to figure out what is going on. Mr.. Spar still to this day does performances for the back drops in plays and concerts and even has exhibitions at many art galleries. Video art is incredible and something that will keep advancing as far as technology Will take it. The Last Suppose is probably one of the most famous paintings you will ever see next to the Mona Lisa and both were created by Leonardo Advance. The Last Supper has so many questions surrounding it that people have been talking about this painting for many years. There are various signs and symbols in this painting but nobody is sure what they really meant. The food that Advance chose to paint does not correspond with what the Evangelists described is one mystery. Another symbol could be the salt shaker that was fallen over. Traditionally a fallen salt shaker is a sign of bad luck. The salt shaker was tipped over in front of Judas which instead could be a sign of mischief. He could have been chosen to play the role of traitor. Judas is also the only one with an empty plate and maybe that could be a sign he is full of mischief, Another strange sign is the fish at the able. Jesus spent most tot his elite around Lake Tibias and that he selected his Apostles among local fisherman. .u1bfa78a144841afb8c9683da3f535c7e , .u1bfa78a144841afb8c9683da3f535c7e .postImageUrl , .u1bfa78a144841afb8c9683da3f535c7e .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u1bfa78a144841afb8c9683da3f535c7e , .u1bfa78a144841afb8c9683da3f535c7e:hover , .u1bfa78a144841afb8c9683da3f535c7e:visited , .u1bfa78a144841afb8c9683da3f535c7e:active { border:0!important; } .u1bfa78a144841afb8c9683da3f535c7e .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u1bfa78a144841afb8c9683da3f535c7e { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u1bfa78a144841afb8c9683da3f535c7e:active , .u1bfa78a144841afb8c9683da3f535c7e:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u1bfa78a144841afb8c9683da3f535c7e .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u1bfa78a144841afb8c9683da3f535c7e .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u1bfa78a144841afb8c9683da3f535c7e .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u1bfa78a144841afb8c9683da3f535c7e .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u1bfa78a144841afb8c9683da3f535c7e:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u1bfa78a144841afb8c9683da3f535c7e .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u1bfa78a144841afb8c9683da3f535c7e .u1bfa78a144841afb8c9683da3f535c7e-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u1bfa78a144841afb8c9683da3f535c7e:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: [pic] EssayThe fish seems to he eel and herring and eel in Italian is raring which means indoctrination. Herring in Northern Italy means arena, meaning he who denies religion, There are 50 many mysteries to this painting that people till this day are still trying to figure out the symbols that Advance tried to present in his painting. Mr.. Spar uses a little bit different form of signs and symbols in his art work of Beirut Traffic but he did capture both art concepts He was able to literally use signs and video to convey a message. Sing video can be a little more helpful when trying to understand a message but not always. Most Of the time it may depend on the artist, becau se the artist may not always want observers to exactly understand What message is trying to be seen Then there are times that the artist may not even be trying to send a message at all but observers become so intrigued and mystified that they have to figure out What does this piece Of art work really mean. The only experience I can remember where I used video art would be in an art class took in high school. The art teacher had us make some clay figurines and we would snap pictures and then adjust the figures and snap another picture. When we were done we would then put all the pictures onto the computer and create a motion video of all the stills. Then from there we would add sound to the video creating video art. I know now after researching that there is various forms of video art but this is my personal experience with this art form. I honestly had no clue that it was called this until I learned it compiling this essay but really enjoyed that class and maybe should pursue more creative art in that area. Symbols and signs have used a lot in doing tattoos for people, A lot of people like to get things that have meaning to them and sometimes other people have no clue as to what they mean, More like sub lamina messaging is what believe would consider it to be. There are also times where adjust things that already exist to where they will fit the individual am doing the work for Sometimes in my own personal drawings I will use symbols to represent ideas or other objects that chose maybe to disguise or hide, Advance and Mr.. Spar are two very creative artist who have in my opinion two very different styles of art. Even though, their art styles are very different their creativity is matched by no other. Advance has created art work that will never be forgotten no matter how Old they get, you can practically walk into almost any store and find some kind of item depicting the Last Supper or the Mona Lisa. The way that Mr.. Spar produces his art work by video Will more than likely last forever the way technology is going. This essay was a great experience for me; believe it or not did not know Advance painted the Last Supper. I did know he painted the Mona Lisa and am amazed to learn that he had painted the Last Supper

Solubility rules Essay Example

Solubility rules Essay In general, solubility rules can be used to predict the outcome of double replacement reactions. I have come to this decision, because almost all of the data recorded from the lab, with the exception of number 13, agreed with the predictions made beforehand. 2. Out of the 15 combinations, the observations made for the combination of number 13 (the reaction of lead (II) nitrate and barium chloride), did not agree with what was predicted, based on the solubility rules. The solubility rules that were used to make this prediction were rules number 2 and 3. Rule number 2 states that all salts containing nitrate, acetate and perchlorate are soluble. Rule number 3 states that all salts containing chloride, bromide, and iodide are soluble. 3. Upon conducting this lab, I have come to the conclusion that the predictions made using the solubility rules are more accurate than the actual observations of the given reaction. There were many contributing factors that led me to this conclusion, such as the fact that the materials used during this lab could have been unintentionally tampered with, hence providing false data. For instance, the well plate used in this lab could have not been cleaned properly, which would contribute to inaccurate results. 4. The solubility cutoffs are based on the concentration of the solutes in the solvents. If there is over one gram of salt per every 100 grams of water, then the salt is soluble. If there is between 0. 1 to 1 grams of salt per every 100 grams of water, then the salt is slightly soluble. If there is less than 0. 1 grams of salt per every 100 grams of water, then the salt is insoluble. 5. The limit of solubility of a solid in a solvent is influenced by the pressure, temperature and the nature of the solvent. 6. In the lab for combination 13, I think that these discrepancies occurred, because the aqueous solutions were compromised. 7.One could test the limits of solubility for each combination that the observation did not agree with the prediction, through the means of another experiment. For instance, for combination 13 (the reaction of lead (II) nitrate and barium chloride), you could develop an experiment in which you would change the concentration of the solute particles in one trial. In another trial you would change the concentration of the solvent particles. The purpose of this is to observe whether or not a precipitate forms and to test the limit of the solubility.

12 Things You Should Never Say To Your Boss

12 Things You Should Never Say To Your Boss Honesty is always a good thing, but sometimes- particularly when it comes to talking to your boss- it might not be the best policy. Thinking before you speak is always advised. Profanity and insults are to be avoided at all costs. We know you’re a grownup, but it must be said- you’ll need to be on your best behavior at all times. Here is a list of phrases you should take care never to voice out loud when speaking to your boss. Eliminate these from your vocabulary.1. â€Å"I’m doing the work of three people†Even if this is true, say if your boss fired someone and your workload increased to pick up the slack, this is never wise to say outright. Instead try asking your boss to sit down with you and help prioritize your task list. Once she sees what you’re actually juggling, she’ll realize the work you’re doing is too much.2. â€Å"I don’t have time.†This may be true, but again, there are subtler ways to show your boss that y ou’re drowning in excessive work.3. â€Å"I don’t know how.†/â€Å"I can’t.†If you’re asked to do something, the worst thing to say is â€Å"I don’t know how to do that†- or even worse: â€Å"I can’t.† Your first move should be to figure out if you can figure it out. Within reason, of course. Show your problem solving skills and attempt to solve it on your own. If you need help, ask a colleague or mentor for guidance first. And never just say you can’t because you don’t feel like it.4. â€Å"That’s not my job.†Dismissing a task as outside of your job description or somehow not in your â€Å"area† is a great way to get a negative performance review and a bad reference down the line. Be willing to pitch in and humbly do what needs to be done, regardless of the pay grade.5. â€Å"I don’t know.†If your boss asks you a question, it’s fine to not immediately know t he answer. It’s not fine to say that outright. Never shrug your shoulders and walk away when you could say â€Å"I’m not certain about that, but I’ll look into it for you right away.†6. â€Å"I’ll try.†As Yoda said, â€Å"Do or do not. There is no try.† Get it done. Saying you’ll â€Å"try†- even if you mean it- just makes it sound like you won’t really put your back into it.7. â€Å"Ooh, did you hear about Steve’s weekend fling?†Keep other people’s personal lives to yourself as well. If you must gossip, do it with your out of work friends.8. â€Å"I’m sorry, but†¦Ã¢â‚¬ The â€Å"but† is the real problem here. If you’re genuinely sorry, apologize for what you’re sorry about. No excuses or rationalizations.9. â€Å"I just assumed that†¦Ã¢â‚¬ Ã¢â‚¬Å"Assume† means to make an ass of ‘u† and ‘me.’ Don’t assume. If you h ave any doubts or questions at the outset of a task or project, speak up then. Don’t make assumptions that can cost you and your team (and your boss) valuable time and resources.10. â€Å"At my last job†¦Ã¢â‚¬ Sure, maybe your procedures were more streamlined and your boss was better, but this information is only going to get you in trouble with your current boss.11. â€Å"I need a raise.†While it’s fine to ask for more money at the appropriate time, saying you need one- particularly because you just had a baby or bought a house- is a recipe for not getting one. Play your review process a bit smarter than that. You deserve a raise because you’ve earned it. You’ve shown your value. Never just because you’re broke.12. â€Å"No.†This is a no brainer. There’s always a better way to phrase this. If you ever need to say it, find a better way.

Why Google is the Workplace Everyone Wants to Join (and you should too)

Why Google is the Workplace Everyone Wants to Join (and you should too) Google isn’t just a tech company anymore, it’s an aspirational lifestyle. Once employees secure a coveted spot, they’re almost cult-like in their reverence for their workplace. Not that getting hired is an easy feat- Google currently gets more than two million job applications each year. (Imagine the HR department!) If you still aren’t sure what all the hype is about, then read on. Here are 10 of the many reasons why so many people are trying to get their foot in the Google door.1. SalaryThere may still be a really terrible gender gap at Google, but overall the company pays its engineers better than anybody else. Base salaries start over $128k per year, and the highest earners make more than $600k, plus bonuses. The company can be very tight-lipped about specific numbers, but know that employees are very well compensated.2. Competitive  benefitsThe trick to quality employee retention these days is stellar benefits. Google knows that happy employees who f eel safe and looked-after work harder and stay longer. Some examples of their offerings include a long (for the United States) maternity leave of 18 weeks, several months of parental leave for other primary caregivers, and excellent health care, investment plans, and survivor benefits.3. Smart and motivated  coworkersGoogle makes a big song and dance about recruiting top talent. When you’re a huge fish in a massive pond of other big fish, it can really push you to be more inspired and do even better work. Google wants to change the world, and its employees are all grateful and jazzed up to be along for the ride. The company also encourages its employees to spend up to 20% of their time on their own personal passion projects. This kind of daily inspiration really makes for happy workers.4. Free grubThe food is plentiful and flowing, and we’re not talking cafeteria food here. We’re talking healthy, varied, gourmet breakfast, lunch, and snacks (even dinner for th e midnight oil-burners). Plus, during the day employees have access to coffee bars and juice bars galore. This saves employees time and money (and often makes them eat better), plus has the added benefit of increasing socialization among colleagues during breaks.5. Pets welcomeNo, seriously. The Meaning of Manifest Destiny Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

The Meaning of Manifest Destiny - Coursework Example Polk occupied the controversial Texas land that was under dispute. Polk was not right in his actions in the sense that it meant the annexation of the Texas region would mean imposition of the American law to other territories. Polks actions brought about the famous American-Mexican civil war. The Mexican government responded to the annexation of Texas by confronting America through diplomatic means to the extent that it led to a civil war. Abraham Lincoln disagreed with the Polks position that Texas was to be annexed and put under the United States (Tindall and David 214). Abraham Lincoln, in his opposition to the annexation of Texas, introduced the spot resolution. In the resolution, Licoln demanded that president Polk indicate how the Americans had been affected to warrant annexation. The Manifest destiny had both positive and negative consequences. The positive issue is that the US won in its expansion process, however, it brought unprecedented bad blood between Mexico and America. The Aftermath of the civil war raised immense suspicion between the two

Describe adjustments of the Hmong to America and to biomedicine Case Study

Describe adjustments of the Hmong to America and to biomedicine - Case Study Example Adjustments of the Hmong to America and to biomedicine In the US, inequalities in the health care units caused many Hmong Americans to lack health care insurance; furthermore, they are usually served inappropriately. Restrains on welfare budgets have also contributed to the poor services offered to the Hmong Americans. Moreover, traditional curing strategies practiced by the Hmong and the American health practices are contributing factors to them being poorly served. The Western health providers never recognize the Hmong American culture. For example, a child with seizures among the Hmong immigrants was diagnosed with epilepsy at a Western hospital. They then sent her home with a complex and varying types of medicines, which the parents administered irregularly. The parents then thought the child was affected by evil spirits, and started treating the child with different remedies including offering animal sacrifices. Since the two cultures did not mingle, the child became brain dead due to a massive seizure, though her people kept caring for her. This shows the significance of cross-cultural medical system (Fadiman 18). When people move to a new place and they have to change their cultural systems, they can use their own cultural processes in understanding the new culture. This is made easier when there is participation on the site of the receiving culture. However, this assistance was not there for the Hmong. Every component of the American culture was very dissimilar to their culture. This entailed house styles and every other external appearance of American culture. They were not helped to understand their new environment apart from the only guidelines they had, which were of the Hmong culture, and this was not applicable to their new environment (Fadiman 19). The American biomedical field is different from those of the Hmong community because their beliefs are etical. Medical students and other medical experts are accustomed to the health care practices dur ing their trainings. For example, according to the American culture, the scientific concerns are the ones that are real and are of clinical significance. The Materialistic approach has influenced how the patients in the hospital are handled. The Biomedical view makes Americans to believe that, magic never exists and there exists no other substitutes apart from what they believe. This has made the American Medical professionals to think that their medical systems are superior globally. Their view is rigid and judgmental and has unpleasant effects when treating patients from the Hmong culture (Fadiman 19). The Hmong people have their beliefs concerning the symptoms and healing of illnesses. They do not depend on the germ hypothesis regarding the causes of diseases, unlike the Americans. To them, diseases are caused by control of spirits, soul loss, and infringement of taboo. Their healers make the identification of illnesses and prescribe the appropriate treatment, unlike the America biomedical system. The adjustments to the system were difficult for the Hmong. The barriers that contributed to the difficulties in getting medical care deliveries are the lack of English proficiency, qualified health interpreters, and lack of clinical terminologies in their language. The cultural obstacle that made their adaptation to American life difficult is lack of trust for the western medication. Furthermore, they lacked awareness of the medical systems. They had negative thoughts concerning the medications, because the health providers did not

Underage Drinking Essay Example for Free

Underage Drinking Essay The youth at this days is drinking much more than the youth in the past and this is a big problem because the world is having more criminality and deaths because of this. The number of women since 1977 to 1993 tripled and there are more men drinking than women. 5000 adolescents a year are death because of alcohol. A 60 percent of college women who had sexual transmitted diseases where on the influence of alcohol, 90 percent of the campus rapes were because or the victim or the aggressor were in the influence of alcohol. 5 percent of campus criminalities are because of the influence of alcohol. And also more than half of the students of 140 different colleges affirm that they get very drunk with alcohol and most of them don? t are twenty-one years old. 40 percent of students of 12th grade drink, more than 20 percent of 10th grade students drink, and almost 20 percent of 8th grade students drink; all this is only in the US and there are countries with more drunk students. The consequences of this are:Â  In the brain: adults can have problems with long term memory and long term thinking, adolescents have more problems, because they have this and almost always they show long-lasting harm from alcohol as they grow. In the liver: they have high liver enzymes what shows heavy liver damage, and sometimes obesity. In growth and endocrine effects: puberty is an age in which there are many changes and growth. With alcohol this growth is not complete and it may trouble the generation of hormones necessary for organs, muscles, and bones. In addition it may be problematic with the maturation or reproductive organs. In conclusion, there are more people that drink that in the past and this is very bad because they hurt them, also their victims, the family of their victims, and even their own family so we have to find a solution for this. Also the death of the young people is increasing and there are more people dying also because of car crashes and criminalities.

Impact of Globalization on Economics and Business :: Outsourcing, Offshoring, Free Trade

We live in a time of worldwide change. What happens in one part of the world impacts people on the other side of the world. People around the world are influenced by common developments. The term Globalization is used to describe this phenomenon. According to Harris, the term is being used in a variety of contexts. In a very broad context, media professionals use it almost daily to refer to a wide variety of political, sociological, environmental, and economic changes. The business world, however, uses this term in a much narrower context to refer to production, distribution, and marketing of goods and services at an international level. Everyone is impacted by the continuing increase in Globalization in a variety of ways. The types of food we eat, the kinds of clothes we wear, the variety of technologies that we utilize, the modes of transportation that are available to us, and the types of jobs we pursue are directly linked to Globalization. Globalization is changing the world we live in. Causes of Globalization Harris indicates there are three main factors contributing to globalization. The factors include:  · The reduction in trade and investment barriers to the post- world war II period  · The rapid growth and increase in the size of developing countries’ economies  · Changes in technology Trade Agreements Originally each nation established its own rules of governing forein trade. Regulations and tariffs were often the outcome, leading to the tariff wars of the 1930’s. Nations have found it convenient . . . to agree to rules that limit there own freedom of action in trade matters, and generally work toward the removal of artificial and often arbitrary barriers to trade. Many trade agreements exist in the world today. Of those agreements (general agreement on tariffs and trade [GATT], the European community, and the north American free trade agreement [NAFTA] have had or will have significant impact on the united states. GATT. The first trade agreement of major significance was the general agreement of tariffs and trade. GATT was aimed at lowering tariff barriers among its members. The success of the organization is evidenced by its membership. Originally signed by 23 countries in 1947, the number of participating countries continues to grow. The Uruguay Round of GATT is the most Ambitious Trade Agreement ever attempted. Some 108 nations would lower tariff and other barriers on textiles and other agricultural goods; protect one anothers intellectual property; and open there borders toi banks, insurance companies, and purveyors of other services.

Poverty: Minimum Wage and Economical Unstable Childhood

College Essay Carlos Urias 9/1/2011 Robert Leighton once stated, â€Å"Poverty keeps the vision pure. † I fully understand and can relate to this quote as it pertains to my life. Exposure to economic difficulties at a young age helped shape the person I would grow up to be. Being economically troubled is an experience that has changed my character and has stimulated the decisions I have made throughout my life. Through the hardships of living an economical unstable childhood I have learned to embrace opportunities, the importance of perseverance, and become a charitable person. The cause for being at an economic disadvantage can be traced back to when my parents immigrated to the United States. Because my parents were immigrants, they had no documentation and had to work vigorous hours for minimum wage. They moved into California, and this is where I was born. We lived in a poor neighborhood and there was only enough money for the things we needed and not for what we wanted. Ri sing rent prices and minimum salaries were among the contributing factors that led to my family struggling to stay economically stable. My parents had to each get multiple jobs to try and make us enough money to proceed on living here. The lack of money resulted in problems at home, work, and the neighborhood. Alongside my family, although just a child, I also suffered the consequences of living in these conditions. Because we were living like this, I witnessed a lot of violence, hate, and many hard times. I understood that we were at a disadvantage and learned from my experiences as I witnessed how my family tried to cope with all the problems.Although there was not any money to throw around, I learned many valuable lessons from my family, my environment, and the situations we were living in. As a result of having an economically unstable childhood, I have learned to embrace opportunities. When my family and I were living under the economic pressures of California, it was clear to m e that we did not have opportunities of any kind open to us. It is because of this that we were living the way we were. As I grew older, I realized that there were so many opportunities for me and the options were limitless.Because I remember the hard times in which I came from, I do not take this for granted and take advantage of every beneficial opportunity that is presented to me. My experiences taught me that not everyone has opportunities available to them and the ones that do should be thankful and not take it for granted. These hard economic times led me to see the importance of having perseverance. I admired the way my parents would work so hard day after day and their hopes and dreams would never be crushed.I realized that you cannot give up on what you desire the most. As a child, I always told myself I would pull us out off the hard times; however, I had no idea how. I know now that the key is perseverance. I also understand now that having perseverance helps you keep pus hing forward and makes you never question your goal, but instead keep striving for it. Without perseverance we never would have gotten through the economic troubles and the conflicts that came along with that.Lastly, being economically unstable has shaped me into the charitable person I am today. As a kid I came to understand that many people did not have everything they wanted and that they too faced extremely hard times and struggled to live. Because I can relate, I have sympathy towards everyone who lives in those conditions, or even worse than that. My childhood showed me that there are some things you have no control over and sometimes living in poverty is one of them. For this reason, I try to help as much as I can and extend my hand to those who need it the most. Living in an economically unstable childhood helped me to appreciate opportunities that may rise, realize the importance of perseverance, and become a helpful person towards the needy. Taking into consideration that n ot everyone has the opportunities that are available to me, I take advantage of them. Perseverance is needed to harness these opportunities and make the most out of them. Because I know where I have come from, I know where I am going.

The Site Formation Processes in Archaeology

The Site Formation Processes in Archaeology Site Formation Processes- or more simply formation processes- refers to the events that created and affected an archaeological site before, during, and after its occupation by humans. To gain the best possible understanding of an archaeological site, researchers collect evidence of the natural and cultural events that happened there. A good metaphor for an archaeological site is a palimpsest, a medieval manuscript that has been written on, erased and written over, again and again, and again. Archaeological sites are the remains of human behaviors, stone tools, house foundations, and garbage piles, left behind after the occupants leave. However, each site was created in a specific environment- lakeshore, mountainside, cave, grassy plain. Each site was used and modified by the occupants- fires, houses, roads, cemeteries were built; farm fields were manured and plowed; feasts were held. Each site was eventually abandoned- as a result of climate change, flooding, disease. By the time the archaeologist arrives, the sites have lain abandoned for years or millennia, exposed to weather, animal burrowing, and human borrowing of the materials left behind. Site formation processes include all of that and quite a bit more. Natural Transforms As you might imagine, the nature and intensity of events that occurred at a site are highly variable. Archaeologist Michael B. Schiffer was the first to clearly articulate the concept in the 1980s, and he broadly divided site formations into the two major categories at work, natural and cultural transforms. Natural transforms are ongoing, and can be assigned to one of several broad categories; cultural ones can end, at abandonment or burial, but are infinite or close to it in their variety. Changes to a site caused by nature (Schiffer abbreviated them as N-Transforms) depend on the age of the site, the local climate (past and present), the location and setting, and the type and complexity of occupation. At prehistoric hunter-gatherer occupations, nature is the primary complicating element: mobile hunter-gatherers modify less of their local environment than do villagers or city dwellers. Types of Natural Transforms View of Point of Arches on the Ozette Reservation North of Cape Alava. John Fowler Pedogenesis, or the modification of mineral soils to incorporate organic elements, is an ongoing natural process. Soils constantly form and reform on exposed natural sediments, on human-made deposits, or on previously formed soils. Pedogenesis causes changes in color, texture, composition, and structure: in some cases, it creates immensely fertile soils such as terra preta, and Roman and medieval urban dark earth. Bioturbation, disturbance by plant, animal and insect life, is particularly difficult to account for, as shown by a number of experimental studies, most memorably with Barbara Boceks study of pocket gophers. She discovered that pocket gophers can repopulate the artifacts in a 1x2 meter pit backfilled by clean sand in the space of seven years. Site burial, the burial of a site by any number of natural forces, can have a positive effect on site preservation. Only a handful of cases are as well-preserved as the Roman site Pompeii: the Makah village of Ozette in Washington state in the US was buried by a mudflow about 1500 AD; the Maya site Joya de Ceren in El Salvador by ash deposits about 595 AD. More commonly, the flow of high- or low-energy water sources, lakes, rivers, streams, washes, disturb and/or bury archaeological sites. Chemical modifications are also a factor in site preservation. These include cementation of deposits by carbonate from groundwater, or iron precipitation/dissolution or diagenetic destruction of bone and organic materials; and the creation of secondary materials such as phosphates, carbonates, sulfates, and nitrates. Anthropogenic or Cultural Transforms The Pompeii of North America, Joya de Ceren, was buried in a volcanic eruption in August 595 CE. Ed Nellis Cultural transforms (C-Transforms) are far more complicated than natural transforms because they consist of a potentially infinite variety of activities. People build up (walls, plazas, kilns), dig down (trenches, wells, privies), set fires, plow and manure fields, and, worst of all (from an archaeological point of view) clean up after themselves. Investigating Site Formation To get a handle on all of these natural and cultural activities in the past that have blurred the site, archaeologists rely on an ever-growing group of research tools: the primary one is geoarchaeology. Geoarchaeology is a science allied with both physical geography and archaeology: it is concerned with understanding the physical setting of a site, including its position in the landscape, types of bedrock and Quaternary deposits, and the types of soils and sediments within and outside of the site. Geoarchaeological techniques are often carried out with the aid of satellite and aerial photography, maps (topographic, geological, soil survey, historical), as well as the suite of geophysical techniques such as magnetometry. Geoarchaeological Field Methods In the field, the geoarchaeologist conducts systematic description of cross-sections and profiles, to reconstruct stratigraphic events, their vertical and lateral variations, in and outside of the context of archaeological remains. Sometimes, geoarchaeological field units are placed off-site, in locations where lithostratigraphic and pedological evidence can be collected. The geoarchaeologist studies the site surroundings, description and stratigraphic correlation of the natural and cultural units, as well as sampling in the field for later micromorphological analysis and dating. Some studies collect blocks of intact soils, vertical and horizontal samples from their investigations, to take back to the laboratory where more controlled processing can be conducted than in the field. Grain size analysis and more recently soil micromorphological techniques, including thin section analysis of undisturbed sediments, are conducted using a petrological microscope, scanning electron microscopy, x-ray analyses such as microprobe and x-ray diffraction, and Fourier Transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometry. Bulk chemical (organic matter, phosphate, trace elements) and physical (density, magnetic susceptibility) analyses are used to incorporate or determine individual processes. Formation Process Studies Restudy of Mesolithic sites in Sudan excavated in the 1940s was conducted using modern techniques. The 1940s archaeologists commented that aridity had affected the sites so badly that there was no evidence of hearths or buildings or even post-holes of buildings. The new study applied micromorphological techniques and they were able to discern evidence of all of these types of features at the sites (Salvatori and colleagues). Deep-water shipwreck (defined as shipwrecks more than 60 meters deep) site formation processes have shown that the deposit of a shipwreck is a function of heading, speed, time, and water depth and can be predicted and measured using a set basic of equations (Church). Formation process studies at the 2nd century BC Sardinian site of Pauli Stincus revealed evidence of agricultural methods, including the use of a sodbuster and slash and burn farming (Nicosia and colleagues). The microenvironments of Neolithic lake dwellings in northern Greece were studied, revealing a previously unidentified response to rising and falling lake levels, with the residents building on platforms on stilts or directly on the ground as needed (Karkanas and colleagues). Free sample - A Strategic Plan for Launching BMW 3 Series in USA and UK. translation missing

A Strategic Plan for Launching BMW 3 Series in USA and UK. A Strategic Plan for Launching BMW 3 Series in USA and UKIntroduction The term international business management strategy has its own significance in the techno-savvy world of today. It is the process of establishing the empire of business by a series of strategies viz. executing the business concept, pricing, promotion, and distribution of ideas, goods, services, organizations, and events to create and maintain relationships that will satisfy individual and organizational objectives. We can analyse the situation by strategically approach to the launch of BMW 3 series vehicles. We know Product Diversification and Customer Care are strategic tools employed by present day business to efficiently integrate suppliers, manufacturers, warehouses, and customers so that merchandise is produced and distributed at the right quantities, to the right locations, and at the right time to cut down costs while satisfying service-level requirements .In the past, Product Diversification and Customer Care gained momentum and received due attention from practitioners and researchers. It has become present day managerial competitive weapon for improving performance in the field.   Background International strategic management also results in more exports to and imports from other countries, often called offshore sales and imports. Offshore sales and purchases by U.S. manu facturers have increased to 14 percent of total sales and 10 percent of total pur chases. The volume of corporate voice, data, and teleconferencing traffic between countries is growing at an annual rate of 15 to 20 percent- about double the corpo rate domestic rate- indicating how businesses are increasingly bridging national boundaries. International strategic management is also widespread area today. Banking, law, information services, airlines, education, consulting, and restaurant services-are particularly active globally. Here we can see the automobile giant is going to launch their latest 3 series vehicles in USA and in UK. Born in Germany, BMW was always a passion to the automobile lovers from the beginning itself. Today, we can see the automobile fan is still deployed behind the brand name simply because of its elegant style, beauty and power. Philip Sadler –(2003) Aim of the study BMW is the automobile giant having its presence in every part of the world. The product diversification always enables the company the market leader of the sector without any challenges. Here BMW wants to put their business mark in USA and UK by its latest version BMW 3 series as a part of diversification in the business. The plan BMW intends to ensure its monopoly across the whole world by their corporate strategic management. So as a first and prime step they want to organise a good campaign to make the event more noticeable there in the new country. They wish to make it reorganised their marketing presence within a short time period. BMW Based in Germany, the BMW (Bayerische Motoren Werke, AG) chain stretches across the globe. Automobile and engine manufacturing company started their chase in 1916. With profit margins so small, they were continually looking for ways to reduce costs and utilize facilities efficiently in the initial period.. Now the automobile giant has its own mark in the global automobile scenario.    Country  Make  Cars (2006)  Cars (2008)  Models  Germany  BMW  905,057  901,898  Others  United Kingdom  Mini  187,454  235,019  All Minis  Ã‚   Rolls-Royce  67  1,417  All Rolls-Royce  Austria  BMW  114,306  82,863  BMW X3  USA  BMW  105,172  170,741  BMW X5, X6  South Africa  BMW  54,782  47,980  BMW   Total  Ã‚   1,366,838  1,439,918  Ã‚   Presence in the UK Unlike all other countries, UK has become the most number of users of the brand. The figure 187,454 stretches out a great deal from all others. It is in fact shows the appreciation and recognition of the brand among the public. But by using the innovative models the company is very effectively sustain the leadership in the sector. BMW in the USA Even if the figures are the average, the brand has ts own influence in USA market. The figure 105172 shows its presence is one among the first five in the automobile industry. In fact BMW is accelerating to come to the driver’s seat within a short span of time. A clear but brief background of the two markets, with a justification of their selection BMW, however, recently decided to focus its competitive positioning on enhancing the consumer's feel satisfaction experience by its latest 3 series.   Their target market is the upscale families and business men, who have the following shopping priorities: 1.  Ã‚   Luxurious. The facility is in fact a mark of self esteem and proud, with these items well displayed and good access. 2.   Availability. The selection of items is broad, and the customer has several choices for any one item. 3.  Ã‚   Timely Service. The show room is open at convenient times, and customers do not have to wait in long checkout lines. The Need for Strategic Planning Strategies of one’s own will not make any firm fast growth oriented. Organisation structure and systems also play significant roles in turning a strategy successful Philip Sadler –(2003) . In fact, that is the pivotal part of marketing aspect. For instance, in a rigid, bureaucratic organisation where everything is done based on written orders, strategies sensitive to time will not work. Control systems should also be tuned to implement the strategy. For instance, the success and growth of a restaurant operating in a highly competitive environment depends on the quality of items, lead time and attitude and behaviour towards customers, often more than on price. In such places, ordering and delivering systems have to be closely monitored to ensure competitiveness and resultant growth opportunities, and to have a sustainable growth. Connor, Dick Davidson, Jeffrey(1990). How does BMW influence the potential customers in the market?  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   As in management, these strategies are formulated and implemented by BMW, which want to grow in the entirely different market. Such firms have to maintain sustainable competitive advantage by delivering superior value to the customer. But as a genuine consultant do have my own suggestions. Although it is difficult for any firm to be an ideal growth business, it is worth attempting to reach that ideal. Some of the important characteristics of an ideal growth business are given below. 1.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   A near monopoly that can dominate a market because of patents 2.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   A business where the rate of growth in profits is far higher than the rate of growth in sales 3.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   And the business which can grow independently in the economic cycle 4.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   A business that has a constantly high rate of inquiries and new repeatedorders 5.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   A business that is dependent on management talent. Peter Block says money value has to be there when a consultant deal with such a problem. Positioning map    As BMW has its own mark in both UK and in the USA, company need not struggle to formulate innovative strategies, but they have to convince the customers their unique perceived quality and price positioning. As BMW is high end quality oriented product, there are privileged retailers and customers to take it this new 3 series as their own product. Unlike the main streamers, the product 3 series top level quality product has its unique comfort, luxury which provides the customers a kind of self esteem. The international business strategies for the two countries- the USA and the UK The major challenge before the firm is to align the store with the new competitive priorities established for the chain. An area he has identified as a particular concern is the scheduling of consumers. Maintaining a high level of performance requires more stocking personnel to keep the stock orderly on the shelves and the aisles clear and swept. To make a profit in a low-margin business environment, he has to control costs so that prices remain competitive. The trick is to develop a work schedule for the per sonnel that satisfies competitive requirements, conforms to a reasonable set of work policies, and utilizes the person-net efficiently to minimize labour costs. Charles W. L. Hill   ,( 2010). Unlike all other countries, UK has become the most number of users of the brand. The figure 187,454 stretches out a great deal from all others. It is in fact shows the appreciation and recognition of the brand among the public. As far as the USA is concerned, even if the figures of the existing BMW users are the average, the brand has its own influence in market. The figure 105172 shows its presence is one among the first five in the automobile industry. In fact BMW is accelerating to come to the driver’s seat within a short span of time. By using the innovative models the company is very effectively sustain the leadership in the sector and moreover the new product does not have any major challenge from any other opponents or other similar factors as the strategy can cover them with the present market identity in both these countries.    SWOPT ANALYSIS In BMW, we have seen, and as we would like to see it in its operations more conspicuously over the time. It seems that it has not achieved a great deal. Starting with an excellent strategy, its turnover is a performance tool par excellence. However, it appears that much more can be achieved with the kind of resources which BMW has. The following factors are evident when we analyse the firm with a SWOPT analysis.(Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, Problems and Threats) analysis and as comments are as under: Strengths An excellent team of professionals The very name BMW signifies the impersonality attached to any single individual's name or family. Scope, thus, exists to work for the company rather than to glorify the name of a family.  Ã‚   A manufacturing base in terms of office space, equipment and machinery. A well nourished existing customer base of the company. Good contacts with business world. Self generated export business and hence firsthand knowledge of the buyers and the markets. A very close and harmonious social relationship among partners is seen. It is an indicative of a similar social status of all the partners. Presence of both domestic and export markets in  Ã‚   BMW Market mix enables knowledge of both the markets, but it can be turn to a plus by looking back on the commitment they have shown in the past.   Product associated has a tremendous growth potential, both in international and domestic markets. Weakness   Size: BMW has to grow big and utilise fully the entrepreneurial talents available to it. The present size is not optimum and this is leading to under-utilisation of the time of the directors. The whole Woking of it has to be reorganized to utilise the 'human resources’ available to it. Product Portfolio: Though so far has been able to generate sales from onlytwo lines, but the lines have very narrow product-market scope and could prove vulnerable in the long term. A balanced portfolio could be one which would enable BMW to generate sufficient funds to achieve its growth and the present objectives.   Lack of 'systems' appears to be another weakness of BMW. Today, whatever information (mainly financial) is generated appears to be an end in itself. LIMITATIONS: The product launch relies only on a target group and hence the area where the company is not concentrate or to the remote area will be out of focus as a result of boost in the strategy management can happen. There should be a market research well before the launch which can emphasise the region where the strategies are concentrated more and that could be conducted in various levels or areas. And also it would have been better for the study if it could be conducted in a wide level. Conclusion We can understand the systematic approach of the company will make a mark in the market from the very beginning itself. We know Product Diversification and Customer Care are strategic tools employed by present day business to efficiently integrate suppliers, manufacturers, warehouses, and customers so that merchandise is produced and distributed at the right quantities, to the right locations, and at the right time to cut down costs while satisfying service-level requirements .The company BMW can execute the strategies well, and they will become a top notch firm within a short span of time there in both locations.

How Corporate Governance Plays An Important Role In Managing A Essay

How Corporate Governance Plays An Important Role In Managing A Successfull Family Business PLC In The Long Run - Essay Example According to some survey, at present in many countries family businesses account for as high as 90 percent of all the enterprises situated in those nations. On average more than 75 percent of all the companies in the world are family owned. In Europe, the share of family business at aggregate industry level is more than 70 percent. This kind of dominant presence of family businesses in all over the world, has forced a number of people to argue that in any society across the world the most substantial economic force is nothing but family owned or controlled businesses. The dominant presence of family businesses in a large number of industries, however, does not come as a surprise. In fact, it would have come as a surprise, had it been found that in certain industry family businesses were encountering significant difficulties while making their entry into the industry. The abundance of family controlled or family owned businesses in any industry at any part of the world is actually a common phenomenon because of the reason that in any industry a new business is generally started by some common friends or a group of people within a family to give shape to their common ambition. Whether a firm started as a family business will continue is a family controlled firm on long run, is, however, a quite different issue. Whether a firm will choose to be a family owned firm only even in long run, or will restructure its ownership pattern to become a non-family owned firm depends on a number of factors including the pattern of internal development of the firm, the capacity the family ownership in handling various management issues, and numerous external factors like the pattern of market developments. Very often ‘family factor’ of any family owned or controlled business as a vital key to succeed in its business endeavors. However,

Europe in the International Economic Order Research Paper

Europe in the International Economic Order - Research Paper Example The European Union was formed with the aim of strengthening the economic and political powers of the European countries and emerge as an international superpower. The emergence of the Euro is also a part of this project. Euro was introduced as a common currency for the participating European nations to remove the exchange rate risks within the internal market, to boost up trade across nations and most importantly to bring in monetary stability in Europe. (Fedee, n.d.) Another major purpose was to challenge the increasingly monopolistic power of the currency dollar as a single international currency and to rescue its members from the fluctuations of the dollar. The introduction of Euro has been the most important development in the international economy; it has become the major medium of trade especially in the euro area and other European countries. â€Å" Euro has played a major role in fostering harmony among diverse economies, which had conflicting monetary and fiscal policies, t ariffs and other restrictions on trade and investments† quotes Haruhiko Kuroda, head of Asian Development Bank at this years Brussels Economic forum (Vucheva, 2009). The Eurozone formed covering 11 countries in 1999, â€Å"Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal and Finland† (Q&A: Euro basics, 2002). Greece was allowed to join only after 2001, later Slovenia Malta and Cyprus followed the suit, Slovakia became the 16th country to join the group. (Vucheva, 2009) Joining Eurozone it had the advantage of trading its inflation prone home currency to the stable Euro. It also gained an upper hand in the borrowing activities, which led to an increase in liquidity in the market which in turn improved the standard of living of the Greek citizens. Loans for individuals, governments as well as corporate houses were available at very low-interest rates, which are available only among the developed nations like Germany.

Any controversial issue of interest to explore Essay

Any controversial issue of interest to explore - Essay Example Some of the well known social media platforms include Facebook, Google+, Wikipedia, Linkedln, Twitter, Pinterest among others. The use of social media as a means of propagating information has attracted divergent views and opinions as some argue in its favour while some feel that social media is not a proper tool for sharing thoughts and other information. Those who are against the use of social media have defended their line of thought on a number of factors which include the fact that social networking reduces face-to-face interaction. The autonomy associated with the virtual world allows people to create a lot of fantasy persona or pretending to be someone else. It thus creates a means through which some people can avoid the realities of life leading to increased cases of mistrust. Someone can easily block or cut off the flow of communication from another person whom they may not share similar views and opinions. Online communication is a tool towards crippling the development of social skills and conflict resolution strategies. Negative opinions toward social media have been supported by the fact that it is a means of fraud or identity theft. The information sent on social media platform can be accessed by anyone who has interest in it even those to whom it was not intended to reach. The information is subject to different interpretations and misunderstanding (Wankel, 34). The aspect of sharing personal information puts people at risk of being defrauded as some criminals have mastered the act of stealing personal details. Hacking presents a major weakness of social media as evident by the increasing cases of accounts and profiles of people being hacked. This leads to serious misdemeanor of identity theft and the process does not need on to be very techno-savvy to be successful but just a little knowledge in technology. Sensitive information such as passwords,

Major determinant of Cross-elasticity of Demand

Major determinant of Cross-elasticity of Demand When it comes to Cross-elasticity of demand, we must first illustrate the concept of elasticity of demand. We can say that elasticity of demand is the foundation of the theory of cross-elasticity of demand because elasticity of demand is related to only one good while cross-elasticity of demand is about the relation of 2 goods. We should first compare the elasticity of demand with the cross-elasticity of demand. Introduction of Elasticity of Demand Elasticity of demand is often referred to as the own-price elasticity of demand for a certain good, such as the elasticity of demand with respect to the price of a good. Elastic demand reflects that consumers are very price sensitive. This concept is understandable because we all know price is one of important determinant of quantity, and the quantity demanded of a good is negatively related to its price. We can suppose: for a seller, lower price promotes sales; for a buyer, higher price constraints their desire of purchase. Take the example from the textbook, suppose that a 10% increase in the price of an ice-cream cone causes the amount of ice cream you buy to fall by 20%. According to the formula We calculate your elasticity of demand as 20%/10%= 2. This result can be explained as the elasticity 2 reflects the change in the quantity demanded is twice as large as the change in the price in proportion. This result owes to reasons as follows: First, market for ice cream is very competitive instead of monopolistic. Second, consumers have choices of other substitutes such as other desserts. Third, when the price of ice cream rises, consumers can buy cakes, milk-shake or other desserts. The above formula usually yields a negative value, because of the inverse nature of the relationship between price and quantity demanded. They are described by the law of demand (Gillespie, Andrew (2007). p.43.) but economists tend to refer to price elasticity of demand as a positive value (i.e., in absolute value terms). Definition of Cross-elasticity of Demand Based on the theory mentioned above about price elasticity of demand, we can go further to find out the relation of two goods. In order to distinguish it from the elasticity of demand for that good with respect to the change in the price of some other good, i.e., a complementary or substitute good. (Png, Ivan (1999). p.57.) The latter type of elasticity measure is called a cross-price elasticity of demand. In microeconomics, cross-elasticity of demand is also called cross-price elasticity of demand, which measures the responsiveness of the demand for a good when there is a change in the price of another good. According to its definition, it is measured as the change in demand in percentage for the good A that occurs in response to a change in price in percentage of the good B. The formula to calculate cross-elasticity of demand is as follows: Major Determinant The cross-price elasticity of demand is often used to see how sensitive the demand for a good is to a price change of another good. The major determinant of cross-elasticity of demand is the closeness of the substitute or complement. A high positive cross-price elasticity indicates that if the price of a certain good goes up, the demand for the other good goes up as well. A negative one tells us the opposite that an increase in the price of one good causes a decrease in the demand for the other good. A small value (either negative or positive) tells us that there is little or no relation between the two goods. They are listed in the table below: Cross-price Elasticity Indication Example Graph A positive cross-price elasticity If the price of one good goes up, the demand for the other good goes up as well. Pork and chicken, etc. A negative cross-price elasticity An increase in the price of one good causes a drop in the demand for the other good. Bicycles and helmets; Petroleum and cars, etc. A small value There is little relation between the two goods. Things have little or no relation at all For example, if we suppose the price of chicken goes up by 20%, and as a result the quantity demanded of pork increases by 10%, at the premise that there is no change in the price of pork or anything else that would have influence on the demand for pork (such as quality, advertising, location, etc). Then the cross-elasticity of demand for pork, with respect to the price of chicken, is 10%/20% = 0.5. This concept is also easy to understand. Firstly, as we know that for two goods that complement each other show a negative cross elasticity of demand, which means that an increase in the price of one good cuts the demand for the other. For instance, if the price of bicycles goes up, we will expect to see a decline in the demand for bike helmets; if the price of petroleum goes down, the demand for car will be expected to rise. In this sort of case, we can say the goods are complements and they have a close link in price and demand. Secondly, on the contrary, two goods that are substitutes have a positive cross elasticity, it means that an increase in the price of one good will therefore increase the demand for the other good. When we observe a positive cross-elasticity, we can assume that the two goods are substitutes, as with chicken and pork, butter and margarine. The Third circumstance is two independent goods. If two goods are independent, undoubtedly they have a zero cross elasticity of demand. Practical Application For firms and corporations, it is necessary for them to know the cross-elasticity of demand for their products when they consider the effect on the demand for their products of a change facing with the challenging price of a rivals product or a complementary product. If the quality and appearance is almost the same (regardless of the factors of affection location, and loyalty, etc.) but the price of Firm A is higher than that of Firm B, most consumers will choose the products of Firms B. Among theories of marketing, pricing is not only difficult but technical. These are vital pieces of information for firms when making their production and strategic plans. However, for goods those complement each other, a firm is supposed to promote the sales of both the products and their complements. Nowadays, the price of petroleum is constantly high and it will continuously get higher in the near future. This is definitely a disaster for automotive industry. Some of the automobile companies adopt the strategy of reduction but gets an unsatisfactory feedback. What affects the decision of a consumer is mainly the price of petroleum instead of the automobile, so some companies think out of a promotional tactic: buy car get petro discounted (though the price of a car may be very expensive), and this may be to some extent cater to the consumers psychology. Another application of the concept of cross-elasticity of demand is in the field of international trade as well as the balance of payments around the world. Whats more, for different industries and fields, the concept of cross-elasticity of demand can be used to measure the closeness of relation of each other. For those monopoly enterprises, they are the unique suppliers in market and they are powerful enough to control the whole market, so they wont suffer the pressure from others. However, for some industries, such as Ministry of Railway, if it decides to raise the price in a large scale, many passengers will prefer other transportation, which will make aviation industry or highroad industry prosperous. This will undoubtedly lay itself in an unadvantageous position.
